Acupuncture is widely gaining acceptance in this country as method of pain relief as many studies have proven the effectiveness of acupuncture without the complications or side effects of surgery or pharmaceutical drugs. However, acupuncture has been used for over 3000 years as an effective treatment for a wide variety of chronic ailments. An acupuncture treatment consists of the insertion of thin sterilized disposable needles into specifically selected locations in the body. The stimulation of the specifically selected locations with needles will correct any imbalances of "qi" or energy in the body, which brings the body into a state of healthier physiological function or metabolism by reducing the effects of stress, strain and inflammation in the body. This explains why acupuncture is beneficial in more conditions than solely pain - any health condition that could improve by having the body in a less stressed, less inflamed, healthier physiological state is a candidate for acupuncture.

The thin acupuncture needles are made from a ductile stainless steel which results in minimal pain. In fact, many people find the overall acupuncture treatment to be a very relaxing experience and a tremendously beneficial tool for managing the physical effects of stress and strain on the body. Of course, the number of acupuncture sessions needed for successful treatment will vary depending on the nature of the condition. However, it is usually very evident if acupuncture is benefiting the patient after just 3-4 sessions.
